Happy New Year from all of us at Norwich Meadows Farm

January always brings a shift in rhythm. The fields are quieter, the days are shorter, and the work turns inward—toward storage crops, winter cooking, and planning for the season ahead. It’s a good time to pause, cook simply, and appreciate the vegetables built for this moment.

Winter Vegetables in Their Element

This time of year belongs to roots — and we love carrots.

Carrots, potatoes, winter radishes, and other storage crops are holding steady right now—vegetables that reward patience and shine in winter cooking. Cold weather concentrates their sugars, deepening flavor and turning simple ingredients into something quietly remarkable.

We’ve been especially appreciative of carrots lately, including our longtime favorite, the Kyoto carrot—a variety we first grew at the request of Chef Michael Anthony and one that continues to show up on plates across the city, including a current dumpling at abcV by Chef Neal Harden.

If carrots have ever felt like an afterthought, winter is the season to reconsider them.

A Brief Farm Update

As many of you know, our main operations barn was lost in a fire this winter. The barn was central to our workflow—housing washing, packing, storage, and coordination—and its loss has meant rethinking many day-to-day logistics.

We’ve been adapting by setting up temporary systems and rebuilding essential infrastructure so we can keep moving forward. Progress is steady, even if it’s not always visible, and we’re deeply grateful for the patience and encouragement we’ve received.

Farming has always been a community effort, and this moment has made that especially clear. Thank you for continuing to show up—for the farm, and for one another.

Summer CSA Enrollment Is Open

Enrollment for our 2026 Summer CSA is now open.

The Summer CSA runs for 22 weeks beginning in early June and reflects what’s coming out of the fields in real time. Each share is farm-led and seasonal—built around what’s being harvested that week, shaped by weather, soil, and the natural arc of the season.

Early bird pricing is available through January 31. Pickup locations are available in NYC, New Jersey, and at the farm.

Featured Pantry Product: Pickled Ramps

One of our most requested pantry items is back in limited quantities.

Ramps are fleeting by nature—brief, fragrant, and gone almost as soon as they arrive. Each spring, we harvest them at their peak and preserve them right away. Pickling captures their garlicky bite and balances it with brightness, turning something fleeting into a pantry staple.

They’re excellent chopped into eggs, folded into potato dishes, served alongside roasted vegetables, or used to add depth to grain bowls and salads.
