Heat Level: Sweet · Occasionally a Slight Touch of Spice
Sigaretta di Bergamo—also known as the Cigarette Pepper of Bergamo—is a long, slender Italian sweet pepper prized for its crisp texture and rich flavor. The narrow, often slightly curved peppers ripen from green to deep red, becoming sweeter as they mature.
Although considered a sweet pepper, an occasional Sigaretta di Bergamo may have a gentle touch of spice. They are excellent eaten raw in salads, pickled, fried, grilled, roasted whole, or added to pizza.
These are fresh peppers for cooking and eating. We do not sell seeds or plants. They are sold fresh—not dried, pickled, or preserved.
What Are Sigaretta di Bergamo Peppers?
Sigaretta di Bergamo is a traditional sweet pepper variety from Bergamo in the Lombardy region of northern Italy. Its name translates as “Cigarette of Bergamo,” referring to the pepper’s long, narrow shape.
The peppers have crisp, flavorful flesh and a pronounced natural sweetness. They can be harvested green or allowed to ripen fully to red, when their flavor becomes sweeter, fruitier, and more concentrated.
Are Sigaretta di Bergamo Peppers Hot?
Sigaretta di Bergamo is considered a sweet pepper. Most have no noticeable heat, although an occasional pepper may carry a slight touch of spice. Growing conditions and natural variation can affect the heat of individual peppers.
How to Use Sigaretta di Bergamo Peppers
