Fresh Organic Aji Dulce Peppers
1.5 lb or 3 lb Case · Peak Summer Availability
Heat Level: Very Mild · Typically 0–1,000 SHU
Aji Dulce Peppers are aromatic Caribbean peppers prized for delivering the fruity, floral character of a habanero with little to no heat. These peppers are offered fresh from the field, with a fragrant aroma, gentle sweetness, and complex tropical flavor.
Fresh Aji Dulce peppers are essential to many Caribbean and Latin American dishes, particularly Puerto Rican sofrito. They pair especially well with onions, garlic, cilantro, tomatoes, beans, rice, seafood, chicken, pork, and slow-cooked stews.
These are fresh peppers for cooking and eating. We do not sell seeds or plants. They are sold fresh—not dried, ground, pickled, or preserved.
What Are Aji Dulce Peppers?
Aji Dulce—Spanish for “sweet chile”—refers to a group of aromatic peppers grown throughout the Caribbean and parts of Latin America. They are especially important in Puerto Rican, Dominican, Venezuelan, and Cuban cooking.
Aji Dulce peppers resemble small habaneros and share their intensely fruity, floral aroma, but they are generally very mild. Their flavor is sweet, tropical, and slightly smoky, with enough chile character to give dishes depth without adding significant heat.
Heat can vary naturally from pepper to pepper, and an occasional fruit may be spicier than expected.
How to Use Fresh Aji Dulce Peppers
- Blend into Puerto Rican sofrito with onion, garlic, and herbs
- Sauté as an aromatic base for beans, rice, soups, and stews
- Chop into salsas, marinades, relishes, or vinaigrettes
- Add to seafood, chicken, pork, or braised dishes
- Roast, grill, pickle, or preserve for later use
For a simple preparation, finely chop the peppers and sauté them with onion and garlic in olive oil. Use the mixture as a flavorful base for beans, rice, soups, braised meats, or seafood.
Seasonal Availability
Fresh Aji Dulce Peppers are available only during the summer growing season. Because they are rarely offered fresh outside Caribbean and Latin American markets, availability is limited and varies with field conditions.
