Biquinho Peppers are petite Brazilian chiles with a rounded, teardrop shape and a distinctive pointed tip. Their Portuguese name means “little beak,” a reference to their unusual shape.

Offered in red, yellow, or a colorful mixture of both, fresh Biquinho peppers are sweet, fruity, slightly tangy, and only mildly spicy. They have the aromatic character associated with hotter tropical chiles but just a gentle touch of heat.

These peppers are often encountered pickled and sold as “Sweety Drops,” but ours are offered fresh from the field. Enjoy them raw, roast them, add them to pizza and salads, or pickle them at home.

These are fresh peppers for cooking and eating. We do not sell seeds or plants. They are sold fresh—not dried, pickled, or preserved.

What Are Biquinho Peppers?

Biquinho Peppers, also known as pimenta biquinho or Little Beak Peppers, originated in Brazil. The small peppers are rounded at the top and narrow into a pointed tip resembling a tiny bird’s beak.

Despite belonging to the same pepper species as the much hotter habanero, Biquinhos are remarkably mild. They have a bright, tropical fruitiness, gentle sweetness, subtle tang, and just enough heat to add interest without overwhelming a dish.

Red, Yellow or Mixed Biquinho Peppers

Select your preferred color when ordering:

  • Red: Sweet, fruity, and brightly aromatic
  • Yellow: Sweet and tangy with a lively citrus-like character
  • Mixed: A colorful combination of red and yellow peppers

Both colors have similarly mild heat and can be used interchangeably. The mixed option is especially attractive for pickling, salads, appetizers, and garnishes.

How to Use Fresh Biquinho Peppers

  • Serve raw with cheese, olives, and charcuterie
  • Add whole or sliced to salads and grain bowls
  • Use as a colorful topping for pizza or focaccia
  • Roast or blister with olive oil and sea salt
  • Pickle whole in a sweet-and-sour vinegar brine
  • Add to sandwiches, pasta, seafood, or grilled meats

For a simple preparation, blister the whole peppers briefly in olive oil, then finish them with flaky salt and a splash of vinegar or lemon juice. Serve warm or at room temperature as an appetizer or accompaniment.

Seasonal Availability

Fresh Biquinho Peppers are available only during the summer growing season. Because they are most commonly sold pickled in the United States, fresh Biquinhos can be difficult to find and availability varies with field conditions.
