Organic Dry Black Beans
Dry and Shelled · Available in 3 lb and 5 lb Boxes · 2026 Harvest · Ships Nationwide
Our Organic Black Beans are certified organic and grown at Norwich Meadows Farm in Norwich, New York. These versatile pantry beans have a rich, earthy flavor, creamy interiors, and dark skins that retain their shape well during cooking.
These beans are from our 2026 harvest and arrive fully dried and removed from their pods. There are no pods included—the selected box weight is entirely dry beans.
Dry Black Beans are exceptionally versatile. Use them in Mexican, Caribbean, Central American, South American, and Southwestern dishes, including soups, stews, rice and beans, tacos, salads, dips, and side dishes.
These are dry, shelled beans grown for cooking and eating—not for use as seeds or plants.

Please note: Each box contains dry, shelled beans only—no pods—and the selected weight is the net weight of the edible dry beans.
What Do They Taste Like?
Black Beans have a rich, earthy flavor with a mild sweetness and a smooth, creamy interior. Their dark skins become tender during cooking while helping the beans retain enough structure for soups, salads, rice dishes, and braises.
They pair especially well with rice, corn, tomatoes, onions, garlic, chile peppers, cilantro, cumin, lime, winter squash, sweet potatoes, pork, chicken, seafood, and crumbly or aged cheeses.
As they simmer, the beans create a deeply colored, flavorful cooking liquid that can be incorporated into soups, sauces, and rice dishes.
A Versatile Pantry Bean
Black Beans are central to many dishes throughout Mexico, the Caribbean, Central America, South America, and the American Southwest. Their full flavor and creamy texture make them equally useful in traditional recipes and everyday cooking.
Serve them simply with rice, fold them into tacos and grain bowls, purée them into dips, or simmer them slowly with aromatics, herbs, and spices.
How to Use Them
- Black bean soups and stews
- Cuban-style black beans and rice
- Rice bowls, grain bowls, and salads
- Tacos, tostadas, burritos, and quesadillas
- Black bean salsa, purées, and dips
- Chili and slow-cooked braises
- Side dishes seasoned with garlic, cumin, chile, or lime
How to Prepare Them
Sort and rinse the dry beans before cooking. For a shorter cooking time and more even texture, cover them with plenty of water and soak overnight. Drain and rinse after soaking.
Cover the beans with fresh water or broth, bring to a boil, and then reduce the heat. Simmer gently until completely tender, generally 60–90 minutes depending on soaking time, the age of the beans, and your preferred texture. Add more liquid as needed and season to taste.
Keep the beans at a gentle simmer to help them cook evenly while retaining their shape. Their flavorful cooking liquid can be served with the beans or reserved for soups, sauces, and rice dishes.
How to Store Them
Store these dry beans in an airtight container in a cool, dry, dark place. Proper storage protects them from moisture and helps preserve their flavor and cooking quality.
Cooked beans may be refrigerated in their cooking liquid in a covered container for several days. For longer storage, allow them to cool completely and freeze them with enough cooking liquid to keep them moist.
